Camera On Isaiah

LinkedIn Profile
Though Cameron Isaiah Allen's name has the initials "C.I.A" he is no agent of the Central Intelligence Agency. He is instead, a 20-year-old mass communications major from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Allen was born on Dec. 17, 1998. He attended Wando High school which is located in Mount Pleasant , South Carolina. He graduated from there with 1000 students in his class.

Allen's parents, Michael and Tonya Allen, are both alumni's of South Carolina State University. Allen's dad was a history major and his mom was a criminal justice major. So you could say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree now that Cameron attends SCSU.

In fact, Allen knew at an early age that he wouldn't attend any other college but SCSU.When asked why he came there he responded, " My parents! My dad knows damn near everybody here at SCSU. He's on a first name basis with the president and I know he's cool with James E. Clyburn."

"Ever since I can remember my mom always told me I was going there, no matter where I got accepted to she always told me I was going to South Carolina State,"Allen said, "In the first year I didn't like state but now I like it and wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

Allen originally wanted to go to Winthrop University after he graduated. He wanted to go because he liked it when he visited once and its close to Charlotte where he would like to work.

Allen knew he wanted to be a communications major his freshmen year in High School. When his teacher asked him what he wanted to do then, he wasn't sure of the answer until she mentioned sports. She asked if he would want to be a sport's broadcaster or sport's reporter and he responded, " I guess I would, I kind of like the Tv and I heard I have a good voice for Tv and radio."

His plans after college consist of being a sport's broadcaster working for the Carolina Panthers, which is his favorite team. He believes he has to start working at a local new station until he can work his way up to being employed by the Carolina Panthers.

Allen is inspired mostly by Charles Davis which is a sports analyst. He looks up to him because he likes his voice.

" Honestly this might sound weird but I like his voice. He has a very unique voice and hopefully I can manipulate my voice so that it can be unique too," Allen said.

Allen's short term goal is to graduate from college and his long term goal is to be a successful black man and positive influencer.

When asked what success meant to him Allen responded, "A lot of people like to equate success with money but I'd like to equate success with how you are as a person and how people think of you."

Kris Bennett Showcases How Bulldogs Can Bite Their Way into Media Careers

Against popular belief, South Carolina State University have multiple students who go on and live successful lives after graduating. One student in particular went from being a student at bulldog country to working for Z93 jamz in Charleston, SC.

Kris Bennett, an alumni of South Carolina State University and fellow communications major, came to visit SCSU's students to introduce a scholarship opportunity and also to introduce students to her documentary, The Peninsula Stories: Ralph & Sid.

Kris Bennet brings someone to discuss scholarship opportunities
The Peninsula Stories: Ralph & Sid” is about two high school students, Ralph snd Sidney Sanders, who were star athletes at Burke High School.

" They were like park legends in Charleston," Bennett said.

Bennett tells us that this documentary is about students who have the talent and what happens after if they don't have the grades to back it up. She also goes around to answer the question of whose the better athlete between Ralph and Sid.

"This documentary was a difficult task'" Bennet said.

Bennett had only a year to film this documentary and also dealt with difficulties of people speaking on camera. " People found it hard to be comfortable in front of the camera, but once the camera turns off they say everything I wanted them to," Bennett said, " that part was definitely a learning experience."

She went on to say her targeted audience for her documentary were people from Charleston who may or may not be sports enthusiast and people who may have attended Burke and are familiar with these athletes.

I think her documentary was very informative. It showed students the effects of having tools and not properly applying it. We were able to apply a true life story and see first hand what could happen if you have the talent but not take your education seriously. I feel it helps students to not make the same mistakes that Ralph and Sid did.

From Bulldog Country to CNN

Ashailyn Gleaton, a graduate of South Carolina State University, has went from being a bull dog to an employee at CNN. This Orangeburg native has went from being a college student, to working for Channel 5 news in Charleston, to the big city in Atlanta to working at CNN. For most , this accomplishment would take years but Gleaton got the opportunity sooner.

Gleaton’s opportunities have given her a change of location and a change of heart, as far what she wants to do in the field. Though the Georgia peach lifestyle will be a big adjustment to once being a bull dog, Gleaton intends on sticking to her career change and location for a while.

Q: What do you think your favorite thing about your new job is ? What do you enjoy doing the most ?
A: I would say, being able to shadow and pick where I want to go. I thought I knew what I wanted to do in local news but being here has actually made me change my mind. I initially said in local news I didn't want to do producing but now I'm looking into an associate producer role.

Q: What's your experience like at CNN on a day to day basis?
A:  I mostly do prompter or print out scripts during the day. A typical day like today, I get in at 7 a.m I prompt for two shows and then I go to the studio for the rest of the day and print out scripts.

Q:  How did you get the job at CNN?
A: A lot of luck ! I honestly just applied while I was in Charleston. I saw an opportunity and threw my hat into the ring. I applied in November and they sent an email to record the interview. In February, they emailed me to ask if I was still interested. Then, I did a video interview because I couldn't get to Atlanta to do an actual interview. About a month later I got the call that I had the job.

Q: How is living in Atlanta now since you came from Orangeburg ?
A: A big adjustment, a lot of traffic and a lot to do. Unfortunately, I don't get to always go out and do anything, but definitely a lot to do.

Q: Have you had a lot of opportunities to network and meet other people in your field?
A: Yes, I definitely met a lot of people. Though I haven't met the news personalties but I have met Coy Wire, Hines Ward, Robin Meade. I also network with people I met in the control room.

Q: Do a lot of celebrities come by CNN?
A: I've met one celebrity, Aldis Hodge, who starred in the movie Brian Banks.

Q: When you first came there was it easy to have good working relationships with your co-workers?
A: Well with this position since we're all over the place, I only see my co-workers in passing or if I'm coming into the studio or control room. It felt nod of lonely because you get to know these people but you don't see them.

I Tweet but I'm Not A Bird

There was a time where only birds could tweet but that all changed in 2006 thanks to Jack Dorsey. Users are now allowed to share views and stay informed on various topics by "tweets" in a free space where others may agree and make your tweet trend or disagree and still make your tweet trend.

Twitter is a microblogging and social networking service on which users post and interact with messages known as "tweets". Jack Dorsey was inspired to make twitter because he was fascinated with trains. He was intrigued by the messages he would hear from an St. Louis' emergency dispatch center and how they were able to communicate in short forms of sound, which led him to invent twitter.

Jack Dorsey said, "They were always talking about where they are going, what they were doing and where they currently are and that is how the idea of twitter came."

Twitter is now used by 200 million users who are sending over a billion tweets. It is considered one of the top main stream social medias. It has become apart of users everyday lives, whether it being used  to inform about news or sports, marketing a business or just to be entertained. Twitter has made a big world so small where users can connect with people all over the world.
Even President Trump posts on twitter about his constant rants. He's either always using it to brag about what he claims he has done to make America great again or complaining about people who believes he should be impeached. I feel that he is one of the most unprofessional and childish presidents ever because it is so immature to run to twitter about petty things. He is always attempting to combat scrutiny by posting a childish tweet rather than handling things in an adult manner. Therefore I do not like that he does this.

My thoughts on twitter are that it is a wonderful tool to market your business, gain a following, become a social media influencer and reach out to the world. Twitter is another way to be informed of news or share news. Users get to keep up with what going on around the world, what’s trending and Trump’s constant rants.

Since I am a new user, I intend on using my twitter it to stay informed on what’s going on around me and to market my YouTube channel while keeping users updated on my uploaded videos. I  I also will use it to share my views on various topics.

I follow former President Barack Obama, Rhianna, and De’arra Taylor. I follow Barack Obama because he is my forever president and the first African American President which represents black excellence. I feel whatever he tweets will be worth seeing. I follow Rhianna because she is also another prime example of black excellence and a positive figure in the black community. I follow De’arra Taylor because she is a successful youtuber and she markets her business on all social medias. I would like to watch and take notes so that I could be one day as successful as her.

Mild Mannered Student Drove M1-A1 Abrams

If you could have seen Trenton Montgomery walk through the halls of South Carolina State University's Communication building, you probably would have thought he was a timid introvert. If this thought came across your mind, you would be judging the book by it's cover. Despite all assumptions, this mild mannered man was previously an U.S Army tank driver.

Trenton Montgomery's army life was rooted from the fact that his step mother was in the Navy. He lived in Hawaii with her for 8 years, who was originally from Georgia. When asked about his experience there Trenton said , "I met a lot of people in Hawaii. I enjoyed being in the water and it was a good experience." He also added , " I loved the food."

When Montgomery's stepmother retired from the Navy, they returned to South Carolina. Montgomery then attended Berkeley High School his Junior and Senior and graduated. A year after graduating , he got interested in the army at the age of 19.

Unlike most traditional college students, he didn't enroll in college immediately after graduating high    school. He instead enlisted in the military first and served his time of 3 years and 17 weeks, so that he could pay for college with the GI bill through the military. Montgomery said , "It was actually the best move for me financially."

While in the Army his first job was being a Plummer but he ended up being an armor tank crewman  and drove the M1-A1 Abram Tank.

The job entailed him driving army tanks, shooting an M247 and shooting a 50 Cal.

When driving the tank he had hearing checks to make sure of ear health because tanks were really loud. It was even louder outside the tank. The tank also had air conditioning but it got really hot inside. The tank itself weighs 68 tons without ammo and 72 tons with it.

When asked of his experienced in the tank he responded, " Driving the tank was actually the funnest thing I did in my entire career!"

When asked of his experience in the army Montgomery said ," My experience in the U.S. Army was challenging and also rewarding. I became content with being by myself and traveling the world."

Montgomery was also in Qatar for 7 months protecting U.S. military outpost. While out there he stated, " Communication was important. You should always let someone know where you're at." He also received extra pay while in Qatar because troops get extra pay when deployed.

After his Army career he came to attend South Carolina State University where he works towards his bachelor of arts degree in communications. He chose communications as his major because he always had a passion in sports and did sports analysis. He also participates in running track and cross country.

Even though Montgomery is now pursuing his college career he is still willing to return to serve his country if ever asked to.

Pin Your Interest

Pinterest is a social media network where users are allowed to pin things that spark their interest and a visual discovery engine that allows you to find ideas posted by other users. Pinterest is basically an app to inspire and get inspired. Pinterest was created by Ben Silberman on March 2010.

The common ways people use Pinterest for promoting their business or product, find recipes, find outfit ideas, to look for home and style inspiration, connect with others, etc. To go in depth businesses like Sephora use Pinterest to engage their clients. Users are also allowed to have their own boards full of things that will one day purchase , looks they'll imitate or recipes that they try.

The boards that I have on my Pinterest are called Black Excellence, Sisterlocks, Lit 90's Fashion, Get in my belly, and Dear Black Beauties.

On the board Black Excellence I pin different achievements that African Americans have made that are worth celebrating and that unfortunately goes unrecognized. The Sister Locks board shows different women with hair like mine and how they sport their lovely hair, as I do mine. The Lit 90's Fashion board consist of styles I pin that I would day like to try.  The Get In My Belly board consist of pins of food that look extremely tasty that I either want to eat or want to make. The Dear Black Beauties board is all about pinning good self representation or quotes for black women.

I have these specific topics for my board because they've either spark my interest or inspired me. I also have these boards so that I could inspire other users, spread awareness, and celebrate all the joys that come with being an African American.

I feel the significance and value of Pinterest is that it is an excellent app for business and personal accounts. It allows user to do so many things with it. It could be used for entertainment purposes, business, or ideas that wouldn't be easy accessible.

What I love about Pinterest is that it allows me to connect and express my interest with others.
