Career week has come to South Carolina State University. If you're one the students preparing for an interview, you're probably coaching yourself on how to dress, timeliness, and what to say. Most people never think about what not to say, during a job interview.
Expert author and job interview expert, Don Georgevich, has given insight on 5 things you should never say in a job interview, that could be applied to your coaching and preparation for Career Week.
The first thing that you should not say during your interviews for Career week, according to Georgevich, is to never talk bad about your previous employer. " Don't say you don't like working there !" Georgevich says.
The second thing is to not go into an interview with desperation. Never say, "I'll do anything."As advised by Georgevich, "You have to hold tight to your values."
The Third thing is to never proclaim yourself as a "quick-learner", without explaining how you're a quick learner. Basically don't go in an interview claiming to be something, without showing proof that you are what you claim to be.
The fourth is to never to tell the interviewer that you don't know how to do something. Georgevich says you should instead say, "Can I think about it for a minute?" You have to show them you have some type of knowledge on the task at hand or inform them that you've done something similar. He says, "Give yourself a little time to connect your experience to the required task." He also says, "If you miss more than one competency question that could be it !"
The final tip is to never ask what does your company do here. You should already have researched what they are all about, otherwise it will seem you have little to no interest in the job. A couple months later you may be unsatisfied and looking for another.
If you follow these tips provided by Don Georgevich you should be properly prepared for your upcoming interviews for this weeks' career fair.

New and Improved Communications Program
South Carolina State University's communications program has endured many changes over the course of a couple months. One of them being the absence of the communications' program valued professor, Ms. Pryor, who also was in charge of BNN. Ms. Pryor transferred to Valdosta State university this year and this has left Prof. Smith to take on the task of running BNN alone.
We caught up with Mr. Smith and asked him how the transition of running BNN alone is for him. His response was,"It's a little bit of a transition. The good thing about it is, that I found out about it over the summer and I was still here in Orangeburg when it happened. So I started talking with Mr. Benet and other faculty members to see how we could move forward. "
He also stated, "You know I'm very excited. Of course I'm missing Ms. Pryor's big project but they asked me to take over and I'm glad to takeover. I'm excited because I think this allows our program as well as myself to grow."
He also stated, "You know I'm very excited. Of course I'm missing Ms. Pryor's big project but they asked me to take over and I'm glad to takeover. I'm excited because I think this allows our program as well as myself to grow."
Other changes include the new equipment. The equipment that BNN has now are much more high tech and helpful than those of the past. As you see below there are new cameras.
When Mr. Smith was asked what the differences were in the studio he responded, "There is not a whole lot of changes, but we do have a set and backdrop that is going to be fixed up hopefully in the beginning of January. Also we're hoping to have some retouches on our green screen wall."
When asked what the differences was from last year and this year he said, "We're more high tech , ready for the web and ready for social media ! We are able to stream. We streamed the graduation last May. Also Mr. Benet streamed a press conference with the sports department over the summer. We're hoping that soon we can stream BNN directly to the web and social media."

LinkedIn is a professional networking site that allows users to showcase their professional identity. LinkedIn is used by job seekers, recruiters, undergraduate and graduate students, business people, etc. It operates by allowing you to select your interest and things that are relevant you . It also allows you to connect with friends, people who are related to any of your interest or business organizations. With LinkedIn you get to showcase your education and experience in fields. You can also endorse someone or get endorsed.

LinkedIn also allows you to post a professional picture of yourself as a profile. I took a professional image as you can see above with Mr. Rolando Davis (contact info: rdavis61@scsu.edu) specifically for my LinkedIn account, where I could easily represent myself with this picture as person who can professionally be taken serious. Other users also may get their pictures professionally taken for this purpose as well. With my LinkedIn account I will try to convey my professionalism and skill set.
I think LinkedIn is popular because the features allow you to reach out to so many people. I also think that it is popular because it helps recruiters and those who are searching for a job to connect in a more simpler and professional way. LinkedIn allows you to showcase your professional identity in ways that simply having a resume or filled out application can not.
Some fo the LinkedIn features that I like and think is important is connect feature, being able to manage your endorsements, showcase pages, and being able to add media files to your profile.
One of the LinkedIn accounts I recognized was Zion Riley's. She has her interests set to help her connect with Like-minded people and she has education part of her profile to showcase her credibility.

Horrific Dorian!
Have you ever had an uninvited guest who showed up to your front door? The kind that wouldn't cause too much chaos, but did enough damage to make you dread that they ever came and hope they'd never return? Well that's the way I'd describe Hurricane Dorian!
Hurricane Dorian swooped into Charleston, South Carolina without an invite on Sept. 4. Everyone in my hometown was either afraid or anxious about Dorian. In anticipation of Hurricane Dorian, my family, other shoppers and myself headed to our local Food Lion. Everyone seemed to be stocking up all at once, so there was barely any bread or water cases when my family and I arrived down the aisle. I remember passing by a friendly shopper when she said, "This Hurricane better come with all this money I've been spending." I looked at her like she was crazy because I was thinking the exact opposite. I was hoping it wouldn't come at all but it did!
Hurricane Dorian showed up in my neighborhood Wednesday night causing a ruckus. The wind was blowing hard which knocked trees onto power lines. This resulted into my house losing power until Saturday evening. We had to eat cereal and sandwiches. Also, if my phone battery died I had to go outside and charge it in my car. You could only imagine how many times I had to do that! I would drive to get gas from the gas station and the traffic light was out and power lines were on the ground.
Not only did it sffect my household but my sister who lives in Ladson as well. She took pictures of the storm pulling off her studio roof in her backyard tearing down her fence.
Despite the fact that Hurricane Dorian was a great annoyance for me, I am thankful that there weren't casualties (at least not for my family). It came uninvited and left a mess for everyone to clean but we all survived, that's the only bright side!
